Online Dialogue: How do the media influence our perception of reality?

In April 2021, a diverse group of people from all over Poland, from both small towns and big cities, attended the community dialogue. Participants began by reflecting together on what a good conversation meant to them. The identified values important to them, such as "the feeling of being listened to" and mutual trust. The group decided that they wanted to talk about the influence of the media on how people perceive reality.

"The most interesting part of the meeting took place when one person showed that they had a completely different opinion than the other participants. It was a turning point for the whole meeting."

Rafał

“To me, community dialogue is about conversation, openness, and willingness to learn the opinions of others."

Paulina

"I came to the meeting expecting that I would have to defend myself against attacks. It turned out that the conversation was very safe, some people even started talking about their personal problems."

Michał

What is a ”community dialogue”?

Community dialogues are our way of working to reduce the polarization of public opinion. We organize them in various places in Poland, and as well as - due to the ongoing pandemic - online. We invite people to a meeting, we connect strangers and create conditions conducive to candid conversations. The goal of community dialogues is not compromise, but respecting differences and finding what unites us. Along the way, we look for a new way of having a national conversation in a divided Poland.
